Being a camp counselor at 4-H Camp Owahta is a calling; a calling to serve our community. Our staff create an environment that inspires our campers to develop new skills, build self-confidence, create lifelong friendships and have safe adventures. Our activities include sports, archery, arts & crafts, ceramics, low ropes, team-building course, farm program, garden program, theater, cooking, outdoor cooking, swim lessons, canoeing, swimming for fun, fishing, and much more. All this happens on 128 acres of forest in McGraw, NY. We are 40 minutes South of Syracuse, NY, 30 minutes North of Binghamton, NY, and 4 hours from New York City.

Create an experience your campers will never forget!

Summer camp counselors ensure the safety, growth, fun and development of campers through activities that promote the mission of Cornell Cooperative Extension and 4-H. The mission of 4-H camping at 4-H Camp Owahta is to foster an environment where youth can engage in practical, learn-by-doing experiences that encourage youth to experiment, innovate, and think independently. Youth learn leadership, citizenship, and life skills through each and everyone of our programs here at camp. But this cannot happen without caring and mature adults who actively engage campers in every moment of being on property.

A 4-H Camp Owahta Counselor lives in the cabin with the campers and provides care for campers physical, mental, social, emotional well-being. Counselors are also responsible for providing a fun and enjoyable experience for campers and leading camp activities.

We like senior counselors to be 18 years old or older, have previous experience working with children, have an attitude of service and are required to complete First Aids/CPR Certification along with other mandatory training. Other positions such as kitchen staff must be at least 16 years old.  Counselors will be required to pass background checks and complete all other Cornell Cooperative Extension of Cortland County hiring requirements.

When would I need to be available to work at camp?

Staff will be required to be available and working from June 23rd to August 17th. Additionally, some staff may be asked to come in for special training for certain positions. If you may have problems with these date feel free to discuss this with the Camp Director.
