Cornell Cooperative Extension of Cortland County Executive Director - Cortland, NY-2024

POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

October 3, 2024 - Cortland County in Central New York is looking for a dynamic leader to support and continue to develop outstanding staff who deliver effective programming to a diverse client base.

The position will appeal to you if you seek to be responsible for coordinating, directing, and sustaining the operations of the Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Cortland County in accordance with the long-term strategy of the organization. You would have direct responsibility to:

Develop and maintain effective working relationships among the Association, staff, extension administration, Cornell faculty, and stakeholders;

Provide leadership for Association relations with legislators, local government leaders, community leaders, funding agencies and civic and special interest groups; and

Collaborate with other Cornell Cooperative Extension Executive Directors and program leaders in the region to assure effective and productive working relationships.

Priorities for the successful candidate will include:

With the board, facilitating the execution of the strategic plan

Overseeing the 4-H camp program and facilities; support the Camp Director in leading direction of the camp

Exploring, proposing, and leading a financial development plan with support from the board of directors

Providing leadership support to the 4-H Junior Fair

You would be accountable to the CCE Cortland County Board of Directors, with oversight by the State Extension Specialist, for the financial viability of the organization’s operations, sound management of staff and volunteers, as well as compliance with contractual, and Federal and New York State regulatory requirements of operations. The Executive Director is the direct liaison between the Board and staff and communicates to the Board on their behalf.

This is a year-round position. You will be required to meet the operating challenges of the organization. The job requires frequent local travel, occasional regional/state travel, and supervision of persons trained and skilled in a variety of specialized functions that deliver services to Cooperative Extension stakeholders. This is a salaried, exempt position.

You will be considered if you possess a master’s degree appropriate to the responsibilities of the position, with preference given to a candidate with a background in one of the major Cooperative Extension program area. Other requirements include:

Minimum of six (6) years of professional experience which includes four (4) years of substantive organizational leadership and management experience including human resources, finance, and organizational management.

Demonstrated ability to work with the general public, community leaders, and government regulatory officials, and to assess local community issues.

Experience successfully dealing with public information and social media is a necessary condition.

Substantial training or experience with applied research, non-formal education, and/or public outreach.

The position offers a salary of $80,000-85,000/year and a comprehensive benefits package upon employment and based on eligibility, to include:New York State Health Insurance Program (NYSHIP) and New York State Employees’ Retirement System (NYSERS).
